Meetingsbooker.com CEO, Ciaran Delaney was delighted to contribute and feed into the Travel and Meetings Standards (TAMS) taskforce meetings committee. The taskforce is a global, independent coalition of more than 180 corporate travel professionals from some of the most significant brands in travel and some of the largest corporate travel programs.

Tilted S.O.S, The Standards of Safety in Business Travel, the report aims to help guide organizations, suppliers and institutions in developing their own business travel policies and standards.

The reports standards are broken down into phases:

1) Global pandemic is declared by the World Health Organisation
2) A destination city is moving into or out of a pandemic/epidemic
3) A pandemic/epidemic declaration is no longer in force

The report also outlines standards for sevel travel dimensions: air, lodging, ground transportation, rail, meetings and events, travel management companies/online booking tools/global distribution systems, and data management.

Meetings and events

The Meetings Committee Standards were developed to help meeting stakeholders, and meeting planners determine what they should expect from their venues during this crisis. The standards cover seven categories and were developed and documented for three different phases of a pandemic as outlined above. Readers should use the set of Standards in the column most applicable to the current state of the pandemic.

The Meeting Standards provided address only safety standards in meeting venues, such as hotels, conference and convention centers, offsite restaurants, and private event locations. Within hotels, the standards are only focused on meeting spaces, such as meeting and breakout rooms, ballrooms, food setup areas for meals, receptions, and snacks. For details about guest sleeping rooms, lobbies, the reception desk, elevators or escalators, and public restrooms, please refer to the Lodging Standards.

The sections include:

- Meetings - Testing or access standards
- Meetings - Cleanliness standards
- Meetings - Physical distancing standards
- Meetings - Food service standards
- Meetings - Participant responsibilities
- Meetings - Organizer/planner responsibilities
- Meetings - Package delivery protocols
